The Bodega Tour

BODEGA: a bodega is a small owner-operated convenience store.

These look slightly different depending on the region. In communities of color which are quite often under-resourced in many aspects including food and everyday home supplies, bodegas are essential. The quality of life of the residents of that community depend greatly on what those bodegas, corner stores, papi stores, convenience stores have in stock.

Serving everything from hot food items to groceries and cleaning items. I mean everything from school supplies to lottery tickets which some might argue fall into the same category as a viable escape to a better life. These locations often become the centers of these communities. Depending on the city you can find one on every block or maybe there are just a few that function just as equally important parts of the heart of those neighborhoods.

The Numz Bodega is nestled within the fourth floor of The Portland Art Museum. An institute of high art filled with the work of artists celebrated the world over. It’s unique location will provide it’s visitors with an opportunity to peek into the future of the art world. Allowing them to engage with those artists and hopefully find a piece that speaks to them in a way that they didn’t know they needed.

Something that they just can’t leave without. Something that keeps them coming back for more. Something that improves their quality of life

The Photographers

  • Victoria Ford

Victoria Ford, AKA Sneakshot, is an accomplished entertainment photographer who has been shooting some of your favorite musicians, actors, and personalities since 2007. A Washington, D.C. native and child of the late ‘70s, Victoria attributes her love for live music and photography to her mother who would sneak shots of their favorite artists at various concerts, her first experience being that of The Jacksons Victory Tour.

In her career thus far, Victoria lives by the motto “always a student” by learning cameras more intently, building lasting relationships with her subjects, and keenly gathering archives for exhibitions.

Victoria has photographed the likes of The Roots, Mary J. Blige, N*E*R*D, Ms. Lauryn Hill, Jeff Goldblum, Lenny Kravitz, Miguel, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Lewis Black, Erykah Badu, and Maxwell, among many others.

  • Lo Braden

Lo Braden, who also goes by Lo Cayne, is a black queer portrait and fashion photographer from Detroit. In the future they believe that we'll be able to take whatever we see and project it onto a screen. We'd be able to show our perspective, our point of view, straight from our brains. That technology doesn't yet exist, so the closest thing they have to that concept, is their camera. It's one of the main reasons why they love photography, they get to take a vision that they have in the form of a dream or sudden burst of inspiration and capture it, and share it with others.

  • Deuce

Since 2010 Clarence “Deuce” Pearsall has been capturing sights, sounds and emotions delivering them in high definition as both photography and videography. Over the years he’s often found himself further behind the lense directing and producing projects.

Based in the Greater Philadelphia area, his work has taken him all around the nation shooting lifestyle and commercial campaigns. Covering events, creating short films, recaps and music videos. His goal is to provide striking and creative visuals for both organizations and individuals in the pursuit of creating a fresh new experience for their target audiences. His list of clients include Danny Garcia, Villa (formerly SneakerVilla), The Mendid, Rap Snacks, The Compound, Oval Marketing and Chronicled as well as various other companies, brands, artists, athletes and musicians.

  • Michelle Lepe

MICHELLE LEPE, AKA PHOTO BRUJA, IS A SELF TAUGHT, QUEER, CHICANX PHOTOGRAPHER BASED IN PORTLAND WHO SPECIALIZES IN BOUDOIR, PORTRAIT, AND CONCERT PHOTOGRAPHY. FINDING SOLACE FROM SEVERE SOCIAL ANXIETY IN ART FROM A YOUNG AGE, SHE HAS TAKEN AN INTEREST IN EXPERIMENTING WITH DIFFERENT ART MEDIUMS THROUGHOUT HER LIFE BUT FELL IN LOVE WITH PHOTOGRAPHY WHILE STUDYING AT PORTLAND STATE UNIVERSITY. ALTHOUGH HER SUBJECT MATTER IS WIDE RANGING, HER TRUE PASSION LIES IN PHOTOGRAPHING PEOPLE. STARTING AS A FLY ON THE WALL, SHE FIRST TAUGHT HERSELF TO USE HER CAMERA AT LIVE MUSIC SHOWS AND EVENTUALLY BUILT UP THE CONFIDENCE TO MOVE FROM WALLFLOWER WITH A CAMERA TO CREATIVE DIRECTOR. BY THE TIME SHE GRADUATED WITH A BACHELORS OF PSYCHOLOGY IN 2016, SHE HAD ALREADY SET THE FOUNDATION FOR HER BUDDING PHOTOGRAPHY CAREER. WITH A GRAINY AND MOODY PHOTOGRAPHY STYLE INSPIRED BY BOTH HUMAN EMOTIONS AND VINTAGE FILM CAMERAS, SHE MIXES HER PASSION OF ACTIVISM WITH HER EXPLORATION OF BOTH SPIRITUALITY AND SELF TO INFLUENCE THE DIRECTION OF HER WORK. SHE IS MOST PASSIONATE ABOUT BODY AND SEXUAL LIBERATION AND STRONGLY BELIEVES IN THE POWER OF BOTH ART AND COMMUNITY AS HEALING TOOLS. HER PASSION LIES IN WORKING WITH WOMEN OF COLOR, HOWEVER HER COLLECTION OF WORK SHOWCASES A WIDE VARIETY OF HUMANS AND A DIVERSE EXPRESSION OF SEXUALITY. SHE USES PHOTOGRAPHY TO SUPPORT HER COMMUNITY IN EXPRESSING THEIR AUTHENTIC SELVES IN FRONT OF HER LENS, DISMANTLING COLONIAL BEAUTY STANDARDS, AND CAPTURING THEIR INNER AND OUTER MAGIC.

  • Darnell McAdams

My name is Darnell McAdams and I was born an only child in Cleveland Ohio to a father who made a career serving in the Air Force and a mother from the South who made it her first priority to instill respect, hard work, and love into her child, while not only holding down multiple jobs, but also creating a home environment that anyone would be proud of.

My passion for photography came about in 2013 after competing on a cable reality show and realizing that my true worth was realized on and around the camera. There was something about capturing moments in time that really resonated with my soul, partly because along the way both of my parents passed away, but also because it was the form of art that made my heart really smile. It was from those years of teachings, failures, and life lessons that in 2017 Raw Glass Photography was born.

Since then the maturation process has been quick. Shooting numerous things including portraits, weddings, fashion shows, plays, music videos, movies, and even a PGA Tour tournament! My true skills have been actualized and I feel that my passion shows in my work!

No one is bigger than the community that supports them which is why I also have donated my time and expertise to schools, events, and individuals in order to promote that sense of family that I was raised to have.
